Tremendous Value - Metro Winning Run for Rupert

Media Release - Monday July 3

Young sire Winning Rupert continued a great month for the Grandview Stud stallion with two more metropolitan wins on Saturday thanks to 3yo filly Semana and 4yo mare Seonee.

In his best period of metropolitan results, the third season sire has produced seven city wins (six  winners) over the past month.

On Saturday, Seonee (T: Patrick Payne, J: Billy Egan) was a strong winner of the Leilani Series Final over 1400m at Flemington, making it three metro wins in a row for the mare.

North of the border, Semana (T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, J: Dylan Gibbons) took out the Fillies & Mares Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1400m at Rosehill by 2.65 lengths.

It could have been more metro winners on Saturday with Winning Revolution (2nd Murray Bridge SA), Tintookie (3rd Rosehill NSW) and Jemeldi (3rd Sunshine Coast QLD) filling minor places.

With three crops on the racetrack, Winning Rupert is the leading Queensland based stallion in the Third Season Sire table for prizemoney ($4 million+) and wins (105), and in the top 5 in Australia for wins. He also has a 51% winners-to-runners strike rate this season.

As a Queensland based stallion, Winning Rupert only sits behind Spirit Of Boom and Better Than Ready for both prizemoney and wins this season.

Winning Rupert stands at Grandview Stud in Queensland at a fee of $7,700.

For breeders particularly those in Queensland, Winning Rupert standing at $7,700 for the upcoming season represents tremendous value, according to Grandview Stud principal Michael Grieve.

“Breeders are really sitting up and taking notice of Winning Rupert after his succession of metro winners recently,” said Grieve.

“The two 3yo sprinters in Bjorn Baker’s Sydney stable, Iowna Merc and Passeggiata, have demonstrated their considerable ability as they progress towards higher honours.

“While Seonee has been outstanding as a 4yo for Patrick Payne in Melbourne and has been earmarked for stakes races in the Spring.

“Across the country, It’sarayday is a stakes winner in Western Australia and Winning Revolution a stakes performer in South Australia.

“I am confident it won’t be too long before we are celebrating the next stakes winner for Winning Rupert.”

After five seasons at Newgate Stud in the Hunter Valley, Winning Rupert will be standing his second season in Queensland at Grandview Stud.

Interestingly, his sire Written Tycoon stood in Queensland at a similar stage of his career and clicked with Queensland mares. Written Tycoon sired Capitalist and Winning Rupert in his first Queensland crop.

“We had a good book of mares for Winning Rupert last season and, with the recent success of his progeny coupled with his service fee, we are looking at an even bigger book this Spring,” said Grieve.
