Town Crier Puts Spirit Of Boom Back on Top

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 28

Defying his inexperience, the Spirit Of Boom debutant Town Crier made short work of six rivals in the Mount Franklin Maiden Plate Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Boris Thornton for Steven O'Dea and Matthew Hoysted. Town Crier travelled sweetly outside the leader My Spy and quickly dropped him on turning for home. The 2yo son of Spirit Of Boom defied the challenge of the confidently backed favourite Payline (Shooting To Win) by three-quarters of a length with More Trouble (Charm Spirit) three lengths back in third.

Matthew Hoysted said Town Crier is far from the finished article.

Town Crier a $160,000 Magic Millions yearling

"Once he got to the front, he wanted to have a good look around," Hoysted said.

"I think he would be better suited one pair back with something to chase.

"He had a good experience today, and he could go through his grades quickly and is one we have a nice opinion of.

A $160,000 purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds/O'Dea Hoysted Racing from the Emirates Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Town Crier is the first foal of the stakes-placed, 4-time winner Tell Me.

A daughter of Choisir, Tell Me has a yearling colt by Tassort. After foaling an I Am Invincible colt last spring, Tell Me was covered by Russian Revolution.

Coincidently, Spirit Of Boom wrested the sole lead back over Russian Revolution in the race for leading 2yo sire for individual winners.

Town Crier is the 18th 2yo winner of the season for Eureka Stud's Spirit Of Boom, which stands for $38,500 in 2023.
