Juvenile Trial Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 26

There was a big set of trials on Monday morning at Canterbury and while we are deep into the season there are still plenty of nice unraced juveniles learning their craft including the full sister to a filly that sold for $2million and a good-looking son of Satono Aladdin (Jpn).

I Am Invincible filly Fickle has been given plenty of time by Peter and Paul Snowden. She was second in a trial won by Facile back in November and this was her first outing since then and she was ridden quietly by Tom Sherry. He asked her to settle off the pace and allowed her to work to the line held together to win by a long neck over unraced Maurice (Jpn) filly Ladyking with proven stakes class filly Cigar Flick looking very nice in her return.

Fickle was retained to race by Yarraman Park and partners and is the first foal from Flippnat, a Group winning half-sister by Hinchinbrook to Group I winner I Am Excited. This is also the family of Group I winners Atlantic Jewel, Russian Emperor and Commanding Jewel, so Fickle has a big pedigree which is why her yearling full sister sold for $2million at Magic Millions this year.

Flippant is married to I Am Invincible and has another filly to follow and is back in foal to him again.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Kiwi bred Satono Aladdin (Jpn) colt Raf Attack showed good improvement from his first trial on June 9 into this one, mustering speed quickly to cross and lead before working to the line to hold off Golden Mile’s half-brother Stanislaus to win by half a length. Godolphin homebred Stanislaus showed nice potential in his last preparation with a win and a placing, but the son of Exceed and Excel has been gelded since and did look more focused this time around.

Raf Attack was a $150,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase.

Raf Attack was a $150,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott from the Rich Hill Stud draft and is the third foal of well bred Commands mare Sima, a half-sister to stakes-winners Solemn and Brave Mead from the family of Group I winners La Volta and Mighty Boss.

Other trial winners were: Mannequin (Exceed and Excel), Shehasattitude (Spill the Beans), Exploring (Brazen Beau), Max Sizzling (Sizzling), He’s All Style (Supido), Diabelli (Fastnet Rock) and Undivided (Rubick).
