Two year-old Deep Field colt Orion the Hunter improved sharply on an unplaced debut run back in March to score by more than a length in the 1000m maiden.

Trained by Shane Nichols as was his mother, Orion the Hunter led all the way and kept up a good gallop to the line.

An $800,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for his trainer, Orion the Hunter runs for a big ownership group and is the first foal of I Am a Star, a Group I winning daughter of I Am Invincible that won 10 races and $1.5million.

I Am a Star had a filly by Extreme Choice last spring and is back in foal to him again and her yearling colt by Fastnet Rock made $400,000 at Magic Millions this year.
