Sires by Bloodline – Redoute’s Choice

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 20

We’ve had a close look at the two major Australian sire son dynasties for Redoute’s Choice established by Snitzel and Not a Single Doubt, but the much missed legendary sire has a number of young sire sons starting off their stud careers, so this chapter of our series will highlight some of these guys.

Redoute's Choice has had a profound influence on the Australian thoroughbred.

Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire Snitzel is the most successful active son of Redoute’s Choice, but he will turn 21 this year so John Messara’s team will be hoping he can pass that baton on to The Autumn Sun.

The Autumn Sun

The Champion 3YO Colt of his generation and a five time Group I winner from 1400 to 2000m, The Autumn Sun is a very different beast to Snitzel in stature and pedigree with his European female family and dam sire Galileo bringing some real stamina into the mix. He also gets a surprising number of chestnut offspring with prominent white markings, which is reminiscent of Galileo, who has left quite a few very good Group I winners that are chestnut.

He’s had a few nice first crop winners, but a lot more will be expected of them next season and there will be nowhere to hide come this time next year.

Coolmore based King’s Legacy and the Yulong owned Alabama Express are the last Group I winning Redoute’s Choice colts to go to stud and the former will have yearlings at the sales next year, while the latter will have runners next season with his first crop yearlings selling for up to $400,000.

A dual Group I winner at two that is closely related to Not a Single Doubt, King’s Legacy was the busiest first season sire in 2021.

Alabama Express

A WFA Group I winner at three over 1400m, Alabama Express is closely related to Everest winner Giga Kick and with the considerable support of the powerhouse Yulong broodmare band will not be short of opportunity.

Kia Ora Stud’s Prague is another possible to extend the success of this iconic sireline as an expensive yearling that showed G1 talent and comes from an elite Australian female family tracing back to Emancipation.
