Wootton Bassett Colt a Watch Horse

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 20

The Group II Coventry Stakes for two year-old colts at Royal Ascot tonight features a very short priced favourite and he is River Tiber, a super talented son of Wootton Bassett (GB), who is set to shuttle to Coolmore Australia for his third season this spring.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, River Tiber has had two starts for two very easy wins in Ireland over five and five and a half furlongs with the step to six furlongs expected to suit him even better.

River Tiber was purchased for 480,000 guineas from Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale and is the first winner from Transcendence, an unraced half-sister to stakes-winners Mister Manannan and Shermeen, the dam of Group I winning 2YO Sudirman.

He is one of eight two year-old winners from 12 starters this year in Europe for Wootton Bassett, whose better bred crops of foals are poised for lift off.

Wootton Bassett is priced this spring at $93,500 with his first Australian bred yearlings to sell in 2024.

Wootton Bassett is back in Australia this spring.
