Debut Winner for Brave Smash

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 19

Exciting young sire Brave Smash (Jpn) is Australia’s leading first season sire by winners and added a tenth to his tally on Monday with an eye-catching debut victory at Newcastle for Power of the Brave in the Prime Thoroughbreds colours.

Trained by Kris Lees, Power of the Brave was easy in the market taking on older rivals in the 1150m maiden, but he unleashed an impressive finishing burst to power home from back in the field.

He charged to the line between runners to win by nearly two lengths in a most promising display.

Power of the Brave was a savvy $80,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase from the Newhaven Park draft for Prime Thoroughbreds owner Joe O’Neill, who was one of the first fans of Brave Smash.

Prime Thoroughbreds purchased Power of the Brave as a weanling.

Power of the Brave is the third winner from four foals to race from stakes-placed More Than Ready (USA) mare More Than Me, a daughter of stakes-winner Langness, whose dam is dual Group I winning sprinter Isca.

Power of the Brave is the tenth winner for Brave Smash, who has also had seven placed horses from 25 starters with his best performers being stakes-winner Brave Mead and Group placed Kimochi and Brave Strike, plus ill-fated Brave Halo, who was fourth in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes.

Brave Smash (Jpn)

A multiple Group I winning sprinter, Brave Smash covered over 400 mares in his first four seasons at Aquis, but will get an amazing opportunity this spring at Yarraman Park at a fee of $33,000.
