Promising Proisir Filly Coeur Volante Opens Winning Account

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 14

The two-year-old Proisir filly Coeur Volante looks to have an exciting future after she put a small but select field to the sword over 1300m at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday.

Ridden by Billy Egan for Mike Moroney settled back in the field as the Justify (USA) filly Clavadatsch took up the running. Switched to the centre of the track, Coeur Volante powered to the line to defeat the Pariah filly Lady in Pink by a widening one and three-quarter lengths, with Clavadatsch three and three-quarter lengths back in third.

It was the second start for Coeur Volante, who debuted over 1000m on the same track on May 27 when a luckless fourth behind the promising Snitzel filly Axzelina.

“It was a hard watch at her first start but much better today,” assistant trainer Glen Thompson said.

“A good ride by Billy. He kept her off the fence and out of trouble, and she showed her class.

“She has class written all over her, and it will be interesting to see where she gets to.

“She put the writing on the wall in the one jumpout since arriving from New Zealand, and her work since her first run has been outstanding.

“The plan was to win a race with her and tip her out for the spring. She won so well today that another run may not be out of the question, but the spring is the main goal.

“There are better things in store for her.”

Sporting the familiar colours of Rupert Leigh, Coeur Volante was a $90,000 purchase for Paul Moroney Bloodstock / Ballymore Stables from the Prima Park draft at the NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

Bred by Fairdale Stud, the daughter of Proisir is the second foal of the talented Testa Rossa mare Shanina, whose first foal is the stakes-placed winner Hasstobemagic (Scissor Kick).

Coeur Volante a $90,000 Karaka yearling

Fairdale purchased Shanina for $22,000 from the Attunga Stud draft at the 2017 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Maid of Ore (Duporth), Shanina is a granddaughter of Group II winner and Group 1 VRC Oaks runner-up Rose O’ War (Danehill).

Shanina’s Time Test (GB) filly sold for $12,5000 from Book 2 at Karaka this year.

After foaling a Per Incanto (USA) colt last spring, Shanina visited Noverre.
