Juvenile Trial Watch - Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 13

Six heats for juveniles at Randwick on Tuesday morning with some interesting winners including a filly we haven’t seen since the Golden Slipper.

Godolphin homebred Brazen Beau filly Exploring won the Group II MRC Blue Diamond Prelude earlier this year before contesting both the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper. A naturally fast on pace filly she’s obviously back with an eye to early spring targets and was restrained in this 740m trial, against her better judgement, before surging to the line.

The two other 740m heats were both won by well bred unraced colts trained by John O’Shea.

Zoustar colt Schwarz was having his first trial and travelled strongly on the bridle throughout, parked behind the leaders and then powering home to win by more than a length.

Schwarz was a $1.25million Magic Millions purchase.

A $1.25million Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for the Rosemont-Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock, Schwarz is the first foal of Group II winner Summer Sham, who traces back to blue hen Shantha’s Choice. The Rosemont Alliance have tasted success with expensive stakes-winning Zoustar colts Brereton and Millane and would no doubt like Schwarz to follow suit and possibly up the ante.

Trapeze Artist colt Costner won a trial last prep, but went to the paddock without a start and looked good at his first run this time around. Still a bit green when asked to extend, he settled to the task and will take improvement from this outing.

Costner will be an easy one to spot with his big baldy face!

A $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his trainer from the Widden Stud draft, he is the second foal of More than a Legend (USA), a winning More Than Ready mare from the family of Champion 2YO Colt and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.

I Am Invincible is having a flurry of late season two year-old winners and Wasted Youth could add to the tally. Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Wasted Youth was having her fourth trial and second this prep and produced her best effort to date to win by three lengths.

$400,000 MM purchase from Strawberry Hill Stud.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Strawberry Hill Stud draft, Wasted Youth runs for a syndicate that includes her breeder John Singleton and is the second foal of Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Long Time Ago from Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner Once Were Wild.

Other winners were Turbulent (Russian Revolution) and Love and Light (Capitalist).
