Vale, Fields of Omagh

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 9

Living Legends announced sad news on Thursday with the passing of two time Cox Plate winner Fields of Omagh at the age of 25.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fields of Omagh, a true champion and two-times Cox Plate winner. Fondly known as Foo, he held a special place in our hearts as our foundation horse here at Living Legends,” they Tweeted.

Bred in Victoria, Fields of Omagh was the best son of Cox Plate winning sire Rubiton and started his career with David Hayes, so when he departed for Hong Kong was given into the care of Tony McEvoy, who took up the reins at the old Lindsay Park.

Fields of Omagh came from a prolific Black Type family that continues to produce good horses with the Grahame Begg trained Choisir gelding Cardinal Gem set to contest the $3million Group I BRC Stradbroke Handicap on Saturday.
