Winning Hong Kong Double for Capitalist

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 8

The progeny of Newgate Farm’s Capitalist are proving a good fit for Hong Kong with a winning double at Happy Valley on Wednesday courtesy of smart three year-olds Seasons Wit and Superb Capitalist highlighting his success.

Trained by Jamie Richards, Seasons Wit was one of three winners on the card for Zac Purton and scored by a length over 1000m taking his impressive record to three wins and six placings from 10 starts.

“He was in a good barrier and he got out of the gates well enough to take advantage of it and stalked the speed and it all fell for him – he’s only a young horse, he did a good job,” Purton said.

“Jamie has done a good job with him.”

A $340,000 Inglis Premier purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Northmore Thoroughbreds draft, Seasons Wit won his maiden Australia at Morphettville before his sale to Hong Kong.

Seasons Wit is the best of three winners from Grand Gesture, a Starspangledbanner half-sister to the dam of Champion NZ 2YO Cool Aza Beel.

Superb Capitalist made it a winning double for Capitalist in the next race, the Tony Cruz trained gelding winning by half a length over 1200m, his third win from seven starts.

A $340,000 Magic Millions purchase for Cham Kuen Li/Golden River Investments from the Element Hill draft, Superb Capitalist is the best of three winners from Shamana, a winning Shamardal daughter of stakes-winner Pravana.

Capitalist has had six winners in Hong Kong from just 10 runners and one of his top selling yearlings this year was a colt from Sensualism that made $500,000 for Mill Park at Magic Millions when purchased by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
