Caulfield Cup market rejigged after shock scratching

Brad Waters - Tuesday October 17

The shock withdrawal of Admire Deus has helped Johannes Vermeer to the top of most Caulfield Cup markets on Tuesday morning.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained galloper flashed home for second to Gailo Chop at his Australian debut in the Group I Ladbrokes Stakes last Saturday and his record on the quick back-up was a factor in his rise in Caulfield Cup betting.

Johannes Vermeer finished second at Group I level at Doncaster a week before a Group I victory at Saint-Cloud in France in 2015.

Ladbrokes and Sportsbet have Johannes Vermeer as the $4.80 favourite in their opening final field Caulfield Cup betting while William Hill and Unibet posted the Ireland-bred galloper at $5.

CrownBet has Johannes Vermeer and Bonneval as $5.50 equal favourites.

Bonneval and Humidor are trading at either $6 or $6.50 with the rest of the agencies surveyed while the latter's Darren Weir-trained stablemate Amelie's Star is at prices ranging from $6.50 to $7.50.

Below is the latest comparison of Caulfield Cup markets. The markets are likely to shift a touch more when the Caulfield Cup barrier draw is conducted at 5pm on Tuesday.
