Back-to-Back Stakes Wins for Ribchester's Red Card

Mark Smith - Saturday June 3

Fresh of her win in the Listed Coolmore Denise's Joy Stakes (1100m) at Scone, Godolphin’s progressive Ribchester (IRE) filly Red Card closed out Queensland Oaks Day at Eagle Farm with an all-the-way triumph in the Nova 106.9 Queensland Day Stakes (1200m).

Ridden by James McDonald for James Cummings, Red Card never looked back in defeating the Zoustar colt Millane by two lengths with the Spirit Of Boom gelding Golden Boom a half-length back in third.

The 3yo filly advances her record to five ins and two seconds from ten starts with earnings of $400,225.

“She’s been a little bit immature mentally and doing a few things wrong,” stable representative Nacim Dilmi conceded.

“It’s not until this prep really that she started to get going. It was an impressive win at Scone last start, she broke the track record.

“She showed today that she still wants to overdo it a little bit. She was a little bit fresh today on her toes. Hopefully, she learnt a lot from today and can go out next start, settle a bit better and go from there. She’s got a tonne of ability; hopefully, she can keep going this way.

“We have Ipswich in a few weeks' time. The Gai Waterhouse (Classic) and those types of races. James will take his time with her, see how she pulls up, and go from there.”

Red Card is the first foal of the winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Penalty, a $20,000 purchase for Yulong when consigned by Gosolphin to the 2020 National Broodmare Sale when carrying an Exosphere colt.

A half-sister to Group III Widden Stakes winner Amercement, Penalty foaled a Tagaloa filly last spring and revisited the Blue Diamond Stakes-winning son of Lord Kanaloa (JPN).

Red Card is one of seven stakes winners for Ribchester(IRE). The son of Iffraaj shuttles to Haunui Farm, where his 2003 fee has been set at $12,000.
