$450,000 Zoustar Filly on Top as National Sale Concludes

Media Release - Wednesday May 31

A beautiful filly by Zoustar topped Day Two of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale capping a massive couple of weeks of selling on the Gold Coast.

After originally being passed in, the Zoustar-Palazzo Cristallo filly offered by Baramul Stud sold to TFI for $450,000 to top proceedings on the day.

$450,000 Zoustar filly from Palazzo Cristallo.

A half sister to recent winners Selhurst Park and Pyromanic, the filly is from a More Than Ready daughter of Palacio de Cristal.

"I'm really excited," TFI's Racing and Breeding Manager Sally Williams said. "She's a beautiful filly."

"She's an athletic filly with loads of quality. She has an air of elegance about her and she looks really fast."

"You will have noticed that we have bought a few lovely fillies this year. The Fung family have been really enjoying racing fillies."

"We thought we would buy a few more (fillies) this year - they hold their value and we can always go on and breed with them after (racing)."

"We love Zoustar fillies. She completes the yearling portfolio for the year - they're all breaking in really nice and we are excited about the year ahead," Williams added.

Eight yearlings today sold for six figure prices including a colt by Hellbent offered by Kitchwin Hills who sold to Hong Kong trainer Manfred Man for $240,000.

Over the past two days over $9.4 million was traded on 207 lots sold at the National Yearling Sale at an average price of $45,510 and clearance rate of 68 per cent.

"To sell at the end of a huge yearling sale series - a lot of yearlings have been traded - to sell 207 horses for an average price of over $45,000 and gross almost $10 million is a pleasing result," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch noted.

"We did only clear 68 per cent but, in saying that, this is a sale that doesn't clear so well generally and it is probably a result that is close to be in line with our expectations."

The National Racehorse Sale, comprising an Unreserved TFI Gelding Reduction Sale, grossed almost $700,000 with all 21 lots offered selling at an average price of over $33,000.

The top selling honour among the racehorses was shared by Fearless Knight (Lot 1907 to Wai Yin Li and James Moore Racing) and Rimbaud (Lot 1915 to Annabel Neasham Racing) who both sold for $130,000.

"I would say the National Sale has been a great success given the fact we've sold $141 million worth of horses and sold them to many different countries and jurisdictions and facilitated the sale of a huge amount of horses for our vendors."

"Obviously the market's become a little bit more selective and a bit more cautious, but in saying, $141 million is still a big result in the scheme of things."

"I think the fundamentals, and I have said this for a long time, are very very good. Prizemoney's great, it is a great sport to be part of. We're a culture that loves racing, so I think long-term the fundamentals are so strong that once people come to terms with the economy and where we are with that, we will continue on and thrive."

"Magic Millions has got great confidence as to where we are at and we’ll continue to do the best by our vendors and buyers.

"I'd like to thank our loyal vendors, their staff, all buyers and everyone who played a part in making the sale such a success - and to ensure it ran so smoothly."

"In particular I give massive thanks to the amazing team here at Magic Millions. They have worked long hours for a prolonged period and have been instrumental in the success of the sale."
