Mishani Sniper a New Stakes-Winner for Your Song

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 20

The $160,000 Listed BRC Chief de Beers Stakes (1110m) fell to the Mishani team with Les Ross coaxing a first stakes win from talented Your Song gelding Mishani Sniper, a homebred for prolific Queensland owner breeder Mike Crooks.

Mishani Sniper has had plenty of racing since the start of the year and has hit a real purple patch in the last two months rising swiftly through his classes before arriving in a Black Type assignment.

He charged home late out wide for Mark de Plessis to snatch a narrow victory and has won four of his past five starts.

"He's the type of horse that you can ask to switch off. From that barrier at that start today, Les left it up to me - which was lucky,” said Mark du Plessis.

"He has led and won and he has come from the back. His best win this season before before today was at Eagle Farm when Ang (Jones) rode him. He got back and he ran home.

"I think the give in the track really helped him. He wanted to hang a bit. A firmer track might find him out."

"He's in such a great rich vein of form that Les has got to him flying.

"I have to thank Les and Mike Crooks. It's a long time since I've won in these colours."

Mishani Sniper has the overall record of five wins and six placings from 22 starts with prizemoney topping $330,000.

He is a half-brother to Group III placed Mishani Bullitt and is the best of four winners from Scarlet Tanager, a half-sister by Red Dazzler to Group I winners Universal Prince and Universal Queen and to the dams of Group I winners Think It Over and Krone.

Mishani Sniper is the seventh stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock’s Group I winning son Your Song, who stands at Gooree Stud at a fee of $5,500.
