The Magic Millions Weanling Sale this week produced interesting results for our first season sires with eight siring weanlings that sold for $100,000 or more and Bivouac leading the way.
A homebred for Godolphin by champion sire Exceed and Excel, Bivouac was a triple Group I winning sprinter and stands at a fee of $66,000 this spring.
He was the leading sire by average with all four of his weanlings selling at an average $158,750 with his top seller the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds consigned colt from Viviette (IRE) that made $275,000 to the bid of Belmont Bloodstock.
Bivouac also had a second weanling break $200,000 with a colt from O’Rachael snapped up by Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Riverstone Lodge from the Telemon Thoroughbreds draft.
Vinery Stud’s dual Group I winner Ole Kirk was also popular with six youngsters averaging $111,667 including three that sold for $100,000 or more.
His top seller was a colt from Oxford Angel that made $200,000 for Rosari Farm when bought by renowned pinhooking syndicate Redwall Bloodstock.
Coolmore based proven G1 sire Wootton Bassett (GB) had four weanlings average $108,750 and had three of his four yearlings sold fetch $100,000 or more.
His best result was a filly from Dark Heather that made $160,000 for Bhima Thoroughbreds when bought by Carlaw Park.
Kia Ora Stud’s Golden Slipper winning sire Farnan was the leading first season sire by aggregate with 13 weanlings selling for $1,362,500 and six sold for $100,000 or more at an average $104,808.
He had two youngsters that both sold for $190,000, a colt from Bella Success bought by astute judge Jim Carey and a colt from Duchess Kate bought by Kitchwin Hills.
Coolmore’s dual Group I winning juvenile King’s Legacy was in demand with seven weanlings averaging $80,143 and three selling for $100,000 or more.
Top seller was his colt from Luiza that made $165,000 for Willow Park Stud when bought by Jim Carey.
Widden Stud’s value sire Anders made his presence felt with 11 weanlings averaging $43,722, a great result off a $16,500 fee.
His top seller was a filly from Think Icon that made $130,000 for Parsons Creek when bought by Silverdale Farm/Brian McGuire.
Also from Widden Stud, Camelot’s classy stayer Russian Camelot (IRE) had only the one weanling sell at this sale but he was a cracking colt from Playtime that made $100,000 for Telemon Thorougbreds when bought by Carlaw Park.
Yulong’s Irish bred Group I winning juvenile Lucky Vega (IRE) had three youngsters sell at an average $40,167 and did best with a colt from Cardannic that made $100,000 for Sullivan Bloodstock when bought by Yulong.
