'Chip-Off-The-Block' Fleetwood Keeps the Ball Rolling for Encryption

Mark Smith - Wednesday May 17

Eureka Stud’s first-season stallion Encryption celebrated his first stakes winner with Cifrado in the Group II Spirit Of Boom Stakes at Doomben on Saturday, and Fleetwood kept the ball rolling in the Proven Thoroughbreds Maiden Hcp (1100m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller for James Cummings, Fleetwood was strong to the line in defeating the Exceed And Excel debutant No More Lies by a long head, with the Capitalist colt Stand Aside a length back in third at his debut.

Fleetwood made his career debut when eighth in what proved a strong-form race at Randwick in January, won by Don Corleone.

Godolphin’s assistant trainer Darren Beadman said there is plenty of upside with Fleetwood and believed he might be a player in the spring.

“That win had a lot of merit,” Beadman said.

“He had to muscle his way through on the corner when the second horse came underneath him. To his credit, he dug deep, held his ground, was strong late, and it was probably a little soft on the line. He had his ears pricked and seemed to enjoy the gallop.

“He is a very well-educated horse. He trialled well at his first trial this time in, and Chad (Schofield) was very happy with him.

“He is a chip off the old block. He looks so much like his dad, Encryption.

“The sales team went out on a limb and bought him to support Encryption. He is a lovely individual, and he is very professional.

Bred by John Dann, Fleetwood was a $160,000 purchase for Godolphin from the Kenmore Lodge draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Fleetwood a $160,000 Magic Millions yearling

He is the first winner from two to race for the talented Time Thief mare Jennifer Juniper, a winner at Doomben and placed in seven of her 12 starts.

A half-sister to Group III MRC Moonga Stakes winner Whateverwhenever (Choisir), Jennifer Juniper has a yearling filly by Spirit Of Boom, a weanling brother to Fleetwood, and was covered by Better Than Ready last spring.

Fleetwood is the third first-crop winner for the Group III VRC Danehill Stakes hero Encryption.

The son of Lonhro and 4-time Group 1 winner Guelph stands for a fee of $13,200 at Eureka Stud in 2023.
