Frankel Filly a Show-Stopper at Inglis Great Southern

Media Release - Monday May 15

A Frankel filly deemed “arguably the best weanling filly to be offered anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere this year’’ headlines a strong catalogue for the Great Southern Sale, which is now available online.

Burnewang North will offer a stunning filly by champion sire Frankel at Inglis Great Southern.

As part of a Burnewang North quality selection, the Frankel filly is joined by progeny of other leading sires such as Kingman, Written Tycoon, Shamus Award, Maurice, Dundeel etc in an exciting inclusion in this year’s catalogue.

In total, 420 lots have been catalogued for the Oaklands sale over the two days of June 8 and 9 in what is the last chance of the Southern Hemisphere sales season to secure top-quality weanlings and broodmares at a live auction.

Aside from the Burnewang draft, the catalogue also includes weanlings by the likes of another leading international stallion in Camelot and as well as the progeny of prominent domestic stallions such as Zoustar, So You Think, Toronado, Russian Revolution, Capitalist, Maurice, Pierro, Lonhro, Street Boss, Justify, Spirit of Boom, Hellbent, Starspangledbanner, Supido, The Autumn Sun, Harry Angel, Blue Point etc from 103 individual sires represented.

There is also a strong representation of the progeny of an exciting group of first crop sires such as Admire Mars, Anders, Bivouac, Cool Aza Beel, Dirty Work, Doubtland, Earthlight, Farnan, Fierce Impact, Hanseatic, King’s Legacy, Lucky Vega, North Pacific, Ole Kirk, Peltzer, Prague, Russian Camelot, Tagaloa, Wootton Bassett etc.

Weanlings will be offered all day Thursday and into Friday before broodmares take centre stage.

Among the broodmare offerings are mares in foal to the likes of So You Think, Russian Revolution, Toronado, Wootton Bassett, Pierro, Nicconi, Hellbent, Wild Ruler, Trapeze Artist, Harry Angel and European sire sensation Blue Point.

They will be joined by quality mares off the track including Stakes placed Queen Adele and G3 placed Veranskova, among others.

Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager James Price was excited about getting buyers back to Oaklands, be they end users or pinhookers.

“The Great Southern Sale has proven itself time and again as a source of top-level racehorses, the likes of Montefilia, Behemoth, Sopressa, Extra Brut, Douceur, Gytrash, On The Bubbles, Lunar Fox etc,’’ Price said.

“It’s also a fabulous hunting ground for pinhookers. Out of the 2022 sale alone came some outstanding pinhook results like $40,000 into $350,000, $6000 into $90,000, $26,000 into $200,000, $100,000 into $325,000, $160,000 into $330,000 etc.

“We are extremely grateful to Cathy Hains of Burnewang North for choosing the Great Southern Sale to sell all of her weanlings this year and buyers are in for a real treat with that draft. It is an outstanding group, headed by what I believe to be arguably the best weanling filly to be offered anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere this year, a Frankel filly from a fantastic Aga Khan family that includes Vadeni, a star of the European racing scene in 2022.

“The breeding stock market has begun strongly in Sydney with our Australian Weanling Sale and Australian Broodmare Sale and I have no doubt buyers will find plenty of appealing opportunities in the Great Southern catalogue.’’

Supplementary entries for the Great Southern Sale will be taken until 5pm on Wednesday May 31.
