Barnstorming Win by Majestic Shot in Bright Shadow Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 13

The Shooting To Win mare Majestic Shot gave trainer Grant Allard a welcome change of luck when she claimed a maiden stakes success in Saturday’s Listed Magic Millions Bright Shadow Stakes at Doomben.

Majestic Shot came with a barnstorming finish from near the tail of the field under Andrew Mallyon to defeat Extremist (Extreme Choice) by a long neck, with Comrade Rosa (Capitalist) three-quarters of a length back in third

It was the first winner in over a year for Allard.

“It’s been a transition for the stable for the past 12 months,” an emotional Allard revealed.

“I’ve been part of bigger wins, I’ve been able to look after champions of the Australian turf for a long while. Some wins just mean more than others, and this one’s probably right up there.

“She’s led all the way at Rosehill when starting from an outside barrier. She hates Eagle Farm, so we’re limited in what we can run here.

“I prayed for rain during the week; we didn’t get it. We got a wide barrier, great ride. But thank you so much to the owners for their support. They’ve stuck by me through thick and thin. Grand Syndicates $11,000 purchase; she’s won just under $400,000. That was great.”

An $11,000 purchase for Grand Syndicates / J Price from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, the 5yo daughter of Shooting To Win has banked $388,615 from a record of six wins, two seconds and five thirds.

She is the best of four winners from six to race for the unraced Viscount mare Curtsey, a daughter of the stakes-winning Canny Lad mare Greeting.

Curtsey died in 2021. Her final foal is a yearling colt by Unite And Conquer.

Shooting To Win has enjoyed a fine run of success since the announcement that he will stand at Oakland Park Stud in 2022.

Majestic Shot is his tenth stakes-winner.
