Descendant of Denise's Joy Triumphs in Denise's Joy Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 13

Godolphin gang tackled Saturday's Listed Coolmore Denise's Joy Stakes (1100m) with four runners, and fittingly it was a descendant of Denise's Joy that saluted in track record time.

Red Card in a breeze (image Steve hart)

After finishing last at her first two starts at Kembla Grange and Randwick at two, Red Card has improved out of all recognition.

With Sam Clipperton in the saddle for James Cummings, the 3yo daughter of Ribchester (IRE) turned the competitive-looking stakes into a two-and-a-half-length romp defeating the I Am Invincible filly Written In Code with the Exceed and Excel filly Ojai a length and a quarter back in third.

With her stakes breakthrough, Red Card advances her record to four wins and two seconds from nine starts with earnings of $284,225.

Red Card is the first foal of the winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Penalty, a $20,000 purchase for Yulong when consigned by Gosolphin to the 2020 National Broodmare Sale when carrying an Exosphere colt.

A ha

lf-sister to Group III Widden Stakes winner Amercement, Penalty foaled a Tagaloa filly last spring and revisited the Blue Diamond Stakes-winning son of Lord Kanaloa (JPN).

The sixth dam of Red Card is Denise's Joy, whose memory is honoured with this race every year.

Red Card is the second stakes winner in Australia for Darley Stud’s two-season shuttler Ribchester and his seventh overall. The son of Iffraaj stands at Darley, France, for a fee of €7,500.
