Bolt d'Oro's Bolted In Makes Perfect Start

Mark Smith - Wednesday May 10

Last year's Champion first season stallion in North America, Bolt d'Oro (USA), sired his third winner from his one Australian-conceived crop when Bolted In made a winning debut at Balaklava on Wednesday.

Ridden by Jessica Eaton for Matthew Seyers, Bolted In travelled outside of the leader Testa Dura, one of four of the six horses trained by Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas contesting the Exchange Hotel Gawler Maiden (1200m).

Bolted In gradually wore down Testa Duara, then held the challenge of the More Than Ready (USA) gelding Even Sharper by a long neck. All Too Hard gelding Testa Dura was one and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Sayers said they chose to run Bolted In today in preference to the Listed Without Fear Stakes at Morphettville last Saturday.

"We thought we would go the slightly easier option. He is still green, still growing, and a good six months away, "Seyers said.

"It was good to get a result for a lot of football mates and owners and good for Jess, who has done a lot of work on him."

Bred by Ralph Satschell, Bolted In was a $40,000 purchase for Seyers Racing from the Willow Grove Stud draft at the Adelaide Magic Millions.

"He was athletic, and we missed a couple early that went for too much," Seyers recalled.

"He was in our black book and went for the right price. He is a nice little horse.

"We have had a bit of luck at the Magic Millions previously, so it was a good get.

"I heard the story about (Bolt d'Oro being difficult to control), but this bloke is pretty laidback and will get better as he gets older. So, I'd be happy if he (Bolt d'Oro) came back."

Bolted In is the first runner for the Mint Lane (USA) mare Fonteyn Lane, a half-sister to stakes-winner Bacchanal Woman (Encosta de Lago), the dam of multiple Group III winner Sweet Scandal (Sepoy).

Fonteyn Lane has a weanling colt by Smart Missile, and was not covered last spring.

A dual Grade 1 winning son of Medaglia d’Oro (USA), Bolt D’Oro (USA) left  61 live foals from his lone season at Spendthrift Stud.

His son Bobble has won two from four in Tasmania, and  Minto's D'Oro two from five in Queensland.
