Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Greg Tobin - Tuesday May 9

There were a dozen trials at Warwick Farm on Tuesday with the opening act a win for Golden Slipper winner, Fireburn, but it was the 2YO heats that really caught the attention … especially the performances of some unraced youngsters.

Rich Hill Stud’s dual Group 1 winner Ace High is yet to produce a winner but Bjorn Baker’s O’Ziggy could be about to turn that around fairly soon with his impressive trial win.

A NZ$130,000 purchase for Bjorn & Murray Baker and Clarke Bloodstock at the 2022 New Zealand National Yearling Sale, O’Ziggy is out of the stakes winning 2YO Zigwig and is from the family of Jymcarew, Jameka and Grandslam.

Annabel Neasham’s well named, Miami Vice, doesn’t appear far from a race day debut either and appeared to have plenty in hand when notching up her second trial win.

Hailing from a terrific Gooree Park family which includes Northern Meteor, Smart Missile, Palaisipan and co., Miami Vice is a Shalaa full brother to Matthew Dunn’s Shaquila, a winner at Doomben in December.

Woodside Park’s recently acquired Shalaa, produced a 2YO stakes winner last Saturday with Chilled winning the Without Fear, while Miami Vice was sold to Best Bloodstock for $60,000 at the 2022 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Bjorn Baker also weighed in with another 2YO trial winner in Snitzel filly Star Act.

Having had just the one start in January when third on a heavy track at Canterbury, Star Act could well live up to her name.

A $350,000 buy for Greg Hickman Racing from Segenhoe Stud at the 2022 Gold Coast Magic Millions, Star Act is the third foal of Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce winner Look to the Stars, in turn a daughter of Argentinian Group 2 winner Star Prize.
