Gold, A Proven Source For Quality

Breednet - Tuesday May 9

‘Value to be found’ is a proven fact at the Inglis Gold sale with stakes winners and well-respected buyers choosing to source their next stable star at Oaklands Junction.

191 lots have been catalogued for Sunday’s sale, with 120 already Super VOBIS qualified, which include yearlings by first season sire Grunt (seven), the sire of Duais and Incentivise, Shamus Award (four), superstar Swettenham stallion Toronado (two), and Blue Point (three), the sprinting sensation who has already made his mark overseas with six winners.

Recent graduates from the Gold Sale are not just racetrack winners, but stakes performers, headlined by Group 1 winner Savatoxl who was purchased for $8,000 in 2017 from Stonehouse Thoroughbreds, before going on to win the Goodwood Handicap, Group 2 Schillaci Stakes and just last Saturday, his second Group 3 McKay Stakes.

Recently, graduates include Australian Guineas winner Lunar Fox who was purchased for $40,000, Australiasian Oaks winner Media Award, bought for just $5,000 and exciting three-year-old filly Papillon Club who was purchased for $70,000.

A strong buying lists attends the Gold Sale each year, with stables such as Wilde Racing (Aurora’s Symphony for $40,000), Eurell Racing (Papillon Club) and Nick Ryan Racing (Express Pass for $38,000) all buying and seeing success from Gold graduates.

Not only does the Gold Sale boast tremendous value to buyers year in and year out, but this year, buyers can also use VOBIS Sires Boost vouchers which have been won across the course of the season.

Over $1 million in vouchers have been won by connections of VOBIS Sires progeny, and this sale represents an incredibly valuable opportunity to re-invest into a VOBIS Sires yearling that can go on to race for more vouchers in the coming season, and of course automatically qualify for the $1 million VOBIS Sires Showdown and $500,000 VOBIS Sires Guineas in 2025.

Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria President, James O’Brien, said that the Gold Yearling Sale has seen some incredible racetrack results in recent years and is a proven source of race winners and stakes performers.

“A fantastic catalogue of both proven stallions and exciting, young sires has been assembled for the Gold sale and given the Group 1 success that we have seen, I am expecting this sale to showcase some quality yearlings once again,” O’Brien said.

“I am particularly excited about the number of VOBIS Sires Boost vouchers that have been won this season which should see owners re-invest into the Victorian industry with this sale being the source of quality horses at a valuable price.

“The longevity of stakes performances from 2017 graduate Savatoxl as well as the recent success from the Greg Eurell-trained Papillon Club are what will continue to make the Gold Sale once of the most valuable sources for winners in the country.”

Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager, James Price, highlighted more racetrack success that has been seen from the Gold Sale.

“Aside from the G1 winners, other money-spinners to graduate from the sale include the likes of Express Pass, a winner of over $530,000 having been bought for just $38,000, La Falaise, a G2 winner of over $255,000, bought for just $5000, Free To Move, who has won over $327,000 having been picked up for $8000 and, most famously, Mahamedeis, a winner of over $1.2m having been bought for just $24,000,’’ Price said.

“The Gold Sale presents many opportunities for trainers, syndicators and agents alike to secure good quality stock at value prices.”

The Gold Sale will commence at 10am on Sunday at Oaklands Junction.
