$2.3million for $5million Earner Icebath (NZ)

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 4

Sacred Falls mare Icebath (NZ) has been a stalwart of the Brad Widdup stable for the past three years racking up a series of lucrative wins and placings before finally a G1 victory in the VRC Empire Rose Stakes last spring.

Icebath (NZ) sells for $2.3million.

An outstanding mare with a race record packed with Group I placings, the six year-old daughter of Sacred Falls was offered in the Newgate Consignment as a racing and breeding proposition and purchased by Yu Long.

Sam Fairgray spoke to Jemma Cutting of Inglis after the sale confirming that she will be retired and is set to visit either Written Tycoon or Pierata at Yu Long this spring.

“She’s a nice physical with a great pedigree featuring Savabeel and Centaine, two outstanding broodmare sires,” said Fairgray.

Bred by Waikato Stud, Icebath is a sibling to Group III winner Courier Wonder, stakes-winner Nowyousee and Group III placed Just Fabulous.

She was purchased as a yearling at Inglis Classic by her trainer in partnership for $100,000 so has been an incredible money spinner for her ownership group.
