The Inglis Australian Weanling Sale this week provided the first test of the market for a new generation of first season sires and seven of them sired youngsters that sold for $100,000 plus and two more had babies that sold for just under.
Kia Ora Stud’s Golden Slipper winner Farnan had the single highest result with his colt from Group II placed Waterloo Sunset selling for $180,000 to Black Ridge Farm. Bred by Kia Ora and partners, he was obviously a good sort from the start and his dam is entered for the Inglis Broodmare Sale on Friday as Lot 319.
Fairhill Farm also sold two weanlings by Farnan with a colt from Bulle de Champagne (IRE) selling for $160,000 and a filly from Jolie’s Pearl selling for $120,000.
With three yearlings selling at an average $153,333, Farnan was the leading first season sire by average and third overall for sires with three or more weanlings sold behind only Capitalist and Deep Field.
Coolmore based King’s Legacy had two weanlings sell for seven figures with a colt from Tantivy making $140,000 for Ashleigh Thoroughbreds when secured by Hermitage Thoroughbreds, while a filly from stakes-winner Paprika made $110,000 for Coolmore when bought by J See.
New Zealand based pinhookers Kilgravin Lodge and Carlaw Park also bought colts by King’s Legacy from My Chicharita and Peace Palace (GB) for $85,000 and $80,000.
Vinery Stud’s Ole Kirk had the second highest priced weanling for a freshman sire with Ashleigh Thoroughbreds getting a good result for their colt from So You Beauty that sold for $160,000 to Alter Bridge Equine.
Rosemont Stud’s Hanseatic made his mark with a colt from Savabeel’s Group III winner Adorabeel that made $145,000 for Fairview Park Stud when bought by Sullivan Bloodstock.
Darley based Bivouac had his best result for Middlebrook Valley Lodge with the half-sister to Group placed Rocket Fuel and Elkington Road from Sherbet Bomb selling for $130,000 to GArryard Equine Pty Ltd.
Leneva Park’s Fierce Impact (Jpn) made a splash with Golden Grove’s filly from stakes-winner Brilliant Bisc making $105,000 when snapped up by Simon Miller Racing.
Twin Hills Stud’s speedy So You Think son Peltzer did best with a quality colt from Talisa that was bought by renowned pinhookers Redwall Syndicate for $100,000. Bred and sold by Twin Hills, he is closely related to Group I winner Naketa Jane, who is by Peltzer’s sire So You Think.
Kia Ora Stud’s second sire Prague did best with a colt bred and sold by Kia Ora from their Group II winner Se Sauveur that made $90,000 when bought by RKB Victoria, while another Prague colt from Flying Strike was sold by Fairhill Farm for $85,000 to AB Bloodstock.
Arrowfield Stud’s Admire Mars (Jpn) achieved his best result with a filly bred by the late Sir Patrick Hogan and offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds. The second foal of well bred Fastnet Rock mare Simogramor, she was abought by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $90,000. She owes her geey colouring to grand-dam Katie Lee, a dual Group I winning Champion NZ 3YO Filly.
