First Win for I Am Caviar

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 1

Undefeated world champion sprinter Black Caviar is yet to produce a horse with her exceptional talent, but she did post a fourth winner from five foals to race when I Am Caviar opened his account at Bairnsdale on Monday.

Trained by Peter Moody as was his famous mum, three year-old I Am Invincible gelding I Am Caviar put the writing on the wall when resuming from a spell last month to finish a close second at Cranbourne.

Sent out a hot favourite for the 1000m maiden today, he made it look all too easy, cruising clear to win by three and a half lengths at his fourth start.

“Even though he didn’t beat much I was happy with the manner in which he did it,” said winning rider Billy Egan.

“Each run this time he’s gotten a little better and today he really rounded out the race and was able to conserve his energy mid race, which he was struggling to do, but he seems to be picking up the good racing habits and finishing his races off.”

Retained by his breeders, who raced Black Caviar with so much success, I Am Caviar becomes her fourth winner joining Oscietra, Prince of Caviar and his full sister Invincible Caviar, who is the best of the quartet as a four time metro winner of over $169,000 in prizemoney.

Black Caviar is due to foal to The Autumn Sun later this year.

Black Caviar has a rising two year-old folly by Written Tycoon called Persian Caviar and after missing the next year is due to foal to The Autumn Sun later this year.
