Starspangledbanner 2YO Treasurway Sparkles in Breeders Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday April 29

Two two-year-old stakes-winning fillies at Sandown and Morphettville in a matter of minutes made it a day to remember for Anthony Mithen and the Rosemont Stud team.

The Starspangledbanner filly Treasurway carried the distinctive red and white colours to victory in the Group III Breeders' Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville shortly after the Justify (USA) filly Legacies scored a facile win in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes at Sandown.

Ridden by Craig Williams for Jason Warren, Treasurway was at the tail of the field in the early stages.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner threaded her way between runners under a kind ride to defeat the Street Boss (USA) colt Heuristic by three-quarters of a length, with the Holler gelding Harley'n'rose a neck back in third.

After five consecutive thirds, including three at black-type, Treasurway has banked  $210,035 from her six starts.

t;She really deserved it. It was tradesman-like at the end of the prep," Jason Warren said.

"She had five runs coming here today, and we were bold enough to put her on the truck and ask her for one more.

"She did the job and has earned a break.

"We had a good chat with Anthony Mithen and felt they are two very nice fillies, and it was pointless running them against each other at Sandown. I said that I was happy to take this girl here, and it gave Rosemont a chance to win two black-type races in the space of five minutes.

"I feel this filly will get a mile. She settles well, has a big finish, and when we stretch her out, we will have a bit of fun with her.

"She is deep into her prep, and we will give her a good break. She might miss the first part of the spring.

A homebred for Rosemont and BD Charman, Treasurway is the first foal of the talented Toorak Toff mare Miss Toorak Flyer, who is out of an unraced half-sister to MRC Sir John Monash Stakes and VRC Kensington Stakes. Secret Flyer.

Miss Toorak Flyer has a yearling filly by Exceedance and a weanling colt by Exceed And Excel. She visited Shamus Award last spring.

Treasurway is the 29th stakes-winner for Starspangledbanner, who returns to Coolmore for the forthcoming season with a fee of $33,000.
