Pinhook Winners from 2022 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 27

The Inglis Australian Weanling Sale is on next Monday and Tuesday, so we thought we’d take a look back to see which were the most successful pinhooks from last year’s sale.

There is a special talent in being able to see not what a horse is, but what he will become and for those with the eye to see those diamonds in the rough, the weanling market represents a great opportunity.

This $80,000 Alabama Express colt sold at Inglis Premier for $400,000 to Ballymore Stables Australia / C Bruggeman / Paul Moroney Bloodstock.

Below is a list of the 10 best pinhooks from this sale last year and it’s interesting to note four are by first season sires – Alabama Express, Dubious, Magna Grecia (IRE) and Too Darn Hot (GB) - and two are colts by Deep Field, who is now pensioned from stud duties.

With his fertility in decline during the 2021 breeding season there are less than 40 colts in his entire foal crop born in 2022 which is going to place a premium value on them, something worth considering if you have an interest in any of the three Deep Field colts to be offered at this sale, click here to see them.
