Media Release - Wednesday April 26

An exceptionally strong catalogue for the 2023 Inglis Chairman’s Sale has been strengthened further by the addition of nine outstanding supplementary lots.

Additions to the catalogue include Berimbau, the dam of 5-time G1 winning star Imperatriz, in foal to I Am Invincible and thus carrying a full sibling to the brilliant mare (pictured), G1-winning racemare Inspirational Girl and high-class Stakes winning fillies Scorched Earth and Dashing Legend.

This year’s catalogue of 109 lots is comprised of:

*79 fillies or mares that are either black type performers or black type producers

*44 mares that are pregnant on their first or second cover

*96 entries that are aged 10 or younger

*35 fillies or mares that are totally Danehill free

*An outstanding group of high-class fillies or mares off the track including Montefilia, Icebath, Nimalee, Graceful Girl, Swats That, Electric Girl, Elusive Express, Jal Lei, Mileva, Get In The Spirit, Elizabeel, Pantonario, La Rocque, Joviality, Easifar, Nicci’s Fling, Splendiferous, Tralee Rose, Amasenus, How’s The Serenity etc.

*Mares carrying pregnancies to some of the most highly sought-after stallions globally including Frankel, Gun Runner, I Am Invincible, Snitzel, Extreme Choice, Exceed And Excel, Zoustar, So You Think, Capitalist, Pierro, Maurice, Russian Revolution, Wootton Basset, Per Incanto, The Autumn Sun, Farnan, Bivouac, as well as first crop pregnancies for the likes of Home Affairs, Stay Inside, Pinatubo, St Mark’s Basilica, Palace Pier, Wild Ruler and Portland Sky.

*A breeding right in G1 sire sensation Toronado, which will open the sale as lot 1

The sale is further boosted by the addition of a share in New Zealand sire sensation Proisir to the supplementary catalogue.

Proisir is the sire of five individual G1 winners this season and will stand the 2023 breeding season at the career-high fee of NZ$70,000+GST at Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand.

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch is excited for the sale, which has become one of the highlights on the international sales calendar.

“I didn’t think the catalogue could get any better following the initial launch, but there are some incredible lots in the supplementary and it’s shaping up to be a special occasion,” Hutch said.

“Elite mares like Berimbau – young, proven and in foal to a champion sire – rarely, if ever, come up for auction, so we are hugely grateful for the opportunity to bring her to market.

“The two most recent colts to win the G1 Golden Slipper, Stay Inside and Shinzo, were both sold in utero at the Chairman’s Sale and Berimbau is the sort of mare that could be carrying a Golden Slipper, a Golden Rose, a Coolmore or an Everest winner.

“The depth of quality through the catalogue is just incredible and there is great variety to it also, which is only enhanced by the addition of the likes of Inspirational Girl, Scored Earth and Dashing Legend.

“It’s going to be an occasion not to be missed,” said Hutch.

In recent seasons alone, the dams of G1 winners such as Tofane, Shelby Sixtysix, Montefilia, Private Eye, Stay Inside, Funstar/Youngstar etc. have been sourced at the Australian Broodmare Sale, for as little as $1,000, $8,000, $13,000, $23,000 etc.

The 2023 catalogue includes 143 in foal mares, with covers to some of Australasia’s most popular stallions including Exceed And Excel, So You Think, Wootton Bassett, Russian Revolution, Capitalist, All Too Hard, Hellbent, The Autumn Sun, Trapeze Artist, Farnan, Bivouac, Ole Kirk, Harry Angel and many others, as well as first pregnancies for Home Affairs, Stay Inside, Pinatubo, St Mark’s Basilica, Wild Ruler, Captivant, Portland Sky, Profiteer, Acrobat etc.
