Invincible Gelding a Singapore Sensation

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 24

The Newgate China Horse Club and partners stallion syndicate purchase plenty of colts that don’t quite measure up to what they are seeking and one of them has become a sensation in Singapore winning six races in succession culminating in a stakes victory on Sunday.

I Am Invincible gelding Super Salute kept his winning run going for new trainer Jason Lim at Kranji on Sunday scoring a dominant victory in the EW Barker Trophy Sng G2 (1400m).

He dashed clear of race favourite Golden Monkey by nearly two lengths for Manoel Nunes to win as he pleased.

“I’m speechless now,” said Jason Lim.

“It’s my first Group race (win) and I’m just overly excited and I don’t know what to say.

“In the straight – when he (Super Salute) kicked clear of Golden Monkey, I was still ‘shivering’ and I just hoped that he would hang on (till the end).”

The Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge series had always been earmarked for Super Salute.

“He’s definitely going for the 4YO series so we will keep him ticking (over) and race him in June.”

The Singapore 4YO Challenge series will kick off with the Silver Bowl Sng G3 (1400m) on June 11, followed by the Stewards’ Cup Sng G2 (1600m) on July 2 before culminating with the Singapore Derby Sng G1 (1800m) on July 23.

Super Salute started life racing in Australia as Construct and was second on debut in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate behind Shaquero, but failed to deliver on that early potential with only one other stakes placing and a Kembla maiden win to his name.

A $650,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase from the Manx Park draft for China Horse / Newgate, he was re-offered on Inglis Digital in March last year and purchased by Jason Lim for Singapore for $110,000 and what an outstanding investment he’s been!

Super Salute now has the overall record of seven wins and four placings from 22 starts and is the 94th stakes-winner for champion sire I Am Invincible.

Bred and sold by Manx Park, Super Salute is the lone winner from winning Lonhro mare Martindale Hall, who has been retired from stud duty.
