Bowness draft headlines star-studded entries pouring in for April (Late) Online Sale

Media Release - Tuesday April 18

Bowness Stud will offer a 73-horse reduction in the upcoming Inglis Digital April (Late) Online Sale.

The draft will consist of 71 mares - many in foal to D’Argento (pictured) - with 29 with foals at foot by D’Argento, Peltzer, Yulong Prince, Cosmic Force, Showtime and Ilovethiscity, as well as two additional weanlings.

The online dispersal comes as long-time Bowness owners John and Helen North hand over the business – one of Australia’s most effective thoroughbred nurseries – to their daughter Jocelyn and her husband James Daly, following more than 30 years at the helm.

“Joss and I felt we needed to get back to a more manageable number of horses on the farm and even after this reduction sale we will still be looking to foal down around 60 mares this coming season,’’ James Daly said.

“Joss and I are confident there is great potential among the young stock being sold and hope they bring buyers much success.’’

Leading Bloodstock agent Peter Ford has been assisting the farm in preparing for the reduction sale and has inspected all the young stock, as has Inglis’ GM of Bloodstock Operations Jonathan D’Arcy, and are available to assist buyers in the lead-up to and during the online sale.

“It is a real changing of the guard with James and Joss taking over the Bowness property and combining it with their own Watershed Farm,’’ D’Arcy said.

“John and Helen are extremely popular and successful breeders and they have raised some outstanding horses over the years headlined by the remarkable Trapeze Artist who won five Group 1 races to become the Champion Australian Sprinter of his generation.

“The property at Young raises strong athletic horses and I have no doubt this next generation of the family will continue the fine legacy that John and Helen have established over the years. We are honoured to offer this unreserved reduction sale on behalf of the family and I am sure plenty of great purchases will come out of this online auction.”

The Bowness reduction is part of what is shaping as a spectacular catalogue for the April (Late) Online Sale.

Also already confirmed for the sale is a Woodpark Stud dispersal featuring well-bred mares in foal to the likes of exciting young stallions Bivouac and Harry Angel, as well as G3 placed Arnaqueur, an Arrowfield draft featuring strong Arrowfield families in foal to many desirable stallions, an eight-strong draft from Ciaron Maher and David Eustace including the G3 placed 3YO Warby, G3 placed mare Zouluminious and talented Newgate-owned 3YO Daytona.

Another significant addition to the sale is Electric Charge, the dam of exciting unbeaten G3 Kindergarten Stakes-winning colt Libertad, who will be offered in foal to young Kia Ora stallion Prague.

Entries remain open and will close at midnight tomorrow, Wednesday April 19.

The sale will run from April 21-26, with bidding closing out from the earlier time of 10am on April 26 to facilitate the large catalogue.
