The new ownership team at Blue Gum Farm are delighted to announce a second stallion will be standing alongside proven Group I sire Flying Artie this spring with exciting prospect Sejardan retiring to the renowned Victorian nursery.
Blue Gum Farm has been home in the past to champion sires such as Encosta de Lago and Last Tycoon (IRE) as well as Victorian stalwarts including Rubiton and Rancho Ruler, and the current owners Jason and Mel Stenning and Sean and Cathy Dingwall (who also own Trilogy Racing) look forward to writing their own chapter of success.
Sejardan has been strategically chosen as the perfect example of Australian 2YO speed and his explosive mix of pedigree and physique is sure to hit the target for Victorian breeders.
He won both the Group II ATC Todman Stakes and Group III ATC Breeders Plate, two pivotal events for colts that have previously been won by champion sires such as: Snitzel, Written Tycoon, Exceed and Excel, Pierro, Capitalist and Sebring.
“He was the dominant pre-Christmas 2YO in Sydney winning both the G3 Breeders Plate and $1million Golden Gift before returning in the autumn to win the G2 Todman and was luckless in the Golden Slipper won by his stablemate Fireburn,” said Sean Dingwall.
“Sejardan has a pedigree packed with Australian speed influences and we see that as a proven path to sire success.”
Sejardan is by a Golden Slipper winning champion sire in Sebring, whose next two dams are by Golden Slipper winners Flying Spur and Luskin Star. The Champion 2YO Colt of his generation, Sebring proved a resounding success at stud producing over 80 stakes-winners, eight of them Group I winners, with total progeny earnings topping $135million.
His dam Miss Amajardan was a very fast metro winning two year-old by Snitzel’s half-brother Hinchinbrook with her next two dams by champion sire Encosta de Lago and Danzero, who is yet another Golden Slipper winning sire in the immediate pedigree of Sejardan.
His fourth dam is blue hen Procrastinate, whose next three dams are by champion Australian speed sires Century, Vain and Todman – a virtual history lesson in Australian speed!
“Sejardan is a good sized horse at 16 hands with excellent bone and is very correct. He is powerful and well-balanced with a real presence and we are confident he will let down into an amazing stallion,” said Dingwall.
“We’ve also been watching the emergence of promising Sebring sire sons Gold Standard and Supido, who have both produced Group I performers from modest opportunity to date.”
Sejardan retires with earnings topping $1.2million and his final victory came in the Group III MVRC Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) as a spring three year-old at Moonee Valley.
His fee will be set at $13,750 inc. GST and Blue Gum Farm will be syndicating Sejardan with some shares still available.
