Brave Smash Moving to Yarraman

Media Release - Thursday April 6

Exciting first-crop stallion Brave Smash (Jpn) will relocate to Yarraman Park Stud for the 2023 season.

The son of Tosen Phantom (Sunday Silence grand-son)will stand alongside Australia’s reigning Champion Sire I Am Invincible and his son Hellbent at the Mitchell’s Scone-based property.

Brave Smash is relocating to Yarraman Park.

“Obviously, Brave Smash was an amazing sprinter and exceptional racehorse who consistently showed his class on the racetrack. He first came on to our radar when people were telling us how good his first-crop of foals were, which is always a good sign at the beginning of a stallion’s career,” Arthur Mitchell said.

“Since hearing those good reports, we have kept a very close on eye on his career and have been very impressed with his progeny’s performances on the track. He has made an incredibly strong start and we hope we will continue on this steep upward trajectory.

“We obviously don’t stand many stallions, but we felt Brave Smash fit within our very specific criteria that is needed for us to take on a new stallion at the farm. We will be giving him the greatest chance by sending a lot of our best mares to him and some of the best breeders in the country have already pledged they will also support the horse.

“Although he is Japanese bred, he is very much made in the mould of your typical Australian sprinter and we believe breeders will be very impressed when they come and inspect him on the farm. He is a young horse with his whole career ahead of him and, given the fact he is also a complete outcross, he could very well prove to be a very important stallion to the Australian industry going forward.”

Brave Smash has made a brilliant start at stud, siring five winners from 14 starters which sees him sitting tied at the top by number of winners in the race to be crowned this season’s Champion First-Season Sire, while he is among seven of this year’s first-crop stallions to have sired a stakes winner in his first season with runners.

Brave Mead is the first stakes-winner for Brave Smash.

The stallion’s progeny is headed by the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Brave Mead, a brilliant winner of the Listed Pearl Stakes at Moonee Valley, and he is expected to be set on a Group I Golden Rose Stakes and Guineas campaign next season.

His first crop also includes ultra-talented three-time winner Brave Halo, who also finished fourth in both the Group I Blue Diamond Stakes and Group III Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G), while he is also the sire of the Gary Portelli-trained Kimochi, who was an impressive winner at Randwick-Kensington and will be out to enhance her record even further in this weekend’s Group II Percy Sykes Stakes at Royal Randwick.

A fee for the stallion will be announced at a later date.

Brave Smash has covered 403 mares in his first four seasons, but is going to get the opportunity of a lifetime with his move to Yarraman Park.
