Geese That Lay Golden Eggs – What’s in the Future?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 5

The 2023 Magic Millions Yearling Sale was highlighted by 20 yearlings that sold for $1million or more, but the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale has well and truly eclipsed that figure with 26 sailing into seven figures, so let’s take a look at the mares producing the stars at Riverside Stables this week.

For some of the mares on the list these yearlings are their first foals – English, Miss Bad Behavior (Can), Meryl and for one Ultimate Fever, her Snitzel colt is the last, born when she was 20.

Arrowfield Stud’s star producer Response has an amazing record in the sale ring.

Response (Charge Forward) has proven a very profitable mare as well as being a very successful mare with her six yearlings offered at public auction selling for a whopping $7,325,000 with Golden Slipper winner Estijaab purchased from Inglis Easter in 2017 for $1.7million and her best result coming last year with a Snitzel colt selling for $2.25 million to Tom Magnier.

Named Congregation, he is in work with Chris Waller.

I Am Invincible colt from Bonny O'Reilly, her first three foals sold as yearlings have averaged over $1million!

Widden Stud’s Bonny O’Reilly (NZ) is showing all the signs of following in the footsteps of Response as a saleyard darling with her first three foals all sold as yearlings for a total $3,630,000 with the first of them to race being Group placed Basquiat.

Also for Widden Stud, Lady Jivago (Beneteau) has had two foals, the first Zoustar colt sold for $1.25 million and the second for $1.3million!
