Nicconi Filly Blitzes Rivals in G3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 25

Talented Nicconi filly Bossy Nic was narrowly beaten in a Listed race in Adelaide on debut and confirmed that potential when powering clear at Flemington on Saturday for a dominant victory in the Group III VRC Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m).

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Bossy Nic was partnered again by Dean Holland and gave him an easy assignment when travelling smoothly behind the leaders before sprinting away to win as she pleased beating Zoustar filly Lovazou.

“She was so relaxed last time and she was the same again today, going around to the gates she went around like an eight year-old, so she has a really good head on her shoulders,” said Dean Holland.

“She jumped well and I was able to cover her up and then had the right bums to follow and when the run presented itself it was probably a 100m earlier than I would have liked, but if I didn’t take it I would have ended up blocked in on the fence.

“I just tried to take her through her gears, but the turn of foot was explosive!

“She’s got the Black Type today, but she’s going to have a very nice career.”

A $190,000 Inglis Premier purchase for McEvoy Mitchell Racing / Belmont Bloodstock Agency from the Noorilim Park draft, Bossy Nic has a win and a second from just two starts winning over $140,000 for her big group of happy owners.

She is the second foal and first winner for unraced River Boss, a half-sister by Street Boss (USA) to Group III winner Pierossa and stakes-winner Ploverset.

River Boss died last year and her final foal, a yearling colt by spirit of Boom, sold for $220,000 at the Magic Millions this year to Curran Bloodstock.

Bossy Nic is the 27th stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s perennial favourite Nicconi, who covered 162 mares in Victoria last spring.
