What the jockeys said after the Thousand Guineas

Brad Waters - Saturday October 14

Aaron Purcell grabbed his maiden Group I win when Aloisia triumphed in Saturday's Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.

Purcell took over the filly's training after the suspension of her previous trainer Ciaron Maher last month and Aloisia drove along the inside to score by 1¼ lengths with Luke Nolen aboard.

Shoals was second while the $2.15 favourite Alizee was third, three-quarters of a length from the runner-up.

Below is what the jockeys had to say about the performances of their respective mounts in Saturday's Group I Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.

She did have the perfect run and hopefully I can keep the ride. I think the Oaks was the target this prep so it's bloody awesome.

2nd

Shoals

Mark Zahra

We had a beautiful run but the winner was just a bit stronger at the mile.

3rd

Alizee

Glyn Schofield

She enjoyed a lovely run in transit but didn't quite have that ping today. She was a little but wobbly around the corner but when I let her go, she just didn't sprint like she can do.

4th

She's So High

Damien Oliver

She ran well but she just doesn't run a mile. She'll make a nice sprinter up to 1200(m) I think.

5th

Mintha

Luke Currie

She was a bit dour off the corner and it took her the whole straight to pick up.

6th

Booker

Dwayne Dunn

She had a nice run and she relaxed well but the leader and me just gave up quick. The tempo might have been a little bit too quick but she might have come to the end of her preparation.

7th

Pure Scot

Ben Melham

They were just a little bit sharp for her at this grade and this distance but she ran well from an Oaks perspective and she'll probably go to a Wakeful now and I'm expecting her to run well at 2000(m).

8th

Leather'n'lace

Damian Lane

She'll be better suited to shorter trips.
