Cylinder's Half-sister Parisal Captures Typhoon Tracy

Mark Smith - Saturday March 18

Cylinder finished just over a length short of Group 1 glory in the Golden Slipper, but all was not lost when his half-sister Parisal opened her stakes account in the Group III PKF Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Ridden by Craig Newitt for James Cummins, the 3yo daughter of Astern defeated the Snitzel filly Wee Nessy by a neck with the Overshare filly Lady Laguna a half-head back in third.

The lightly raced 3yo filly advances her record to three wins and a second from five starts with earnings of $234,750.

“We felt like she was a filly who could win a Stakes race at some stage through her career, and today was the day,” stable foreman Sean Keogh said.

“You’ve got to get out there and do it against these hardened type of fillies. Stepping from a maiden to benchmark grade to where she is has served us really well.

“Good from the team to send her interstate and win a Group race like this.”

Craig Newitt said the filly was primed for a big run.

“She’s a lovely filly, she’s obviously been well-schooled and she’s got really good gate speed for a big, leggy thing,” Newitt said.

“From an inside gate we were always going to be positive and work it out. She was just so relaxed inside travelling on a long rein and although she wobbled around the corner, she was really strong through the line.

“You never know where they end up in this camp; they can go to extreme heights.

“She’s lightly raced, she’s got a fair bit of scope to improve, and I’m sure she’s going to win plenty more races.”

A half-sister to Cylinder (Exceed And Excel), Parisal is the second stakes-winner from the first three foals of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Circular.

From the family of Lonhro, Circular won five and placed in eight of her 20 starts, highlighted by her victory in the Group III Matron Stakes at Flemington.

After foaling a Bivouac filly last spring, Circular visited Brazen Beau.

Parisal is the eighth stakes-winner for Darley Stud's Astern
