Entries Open for Inaugural Weanling & Broodmare Sale

Media Release - Friday March 17

Entries for NZB’s National Weanling & Broodmare Sale are now open, set to be held as a physical sale at the Karaka Sales Centre on Friday 16 June.

NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook is looking forward to hosting the newly formed National Weanling & Broodmare Sale at Karaka.

Tokyo Tycoon is an NZB Weanling Sale graduate.

“While the weanling only sale format has been well adopted by our buyers, the addition of the broodmare section will offer a new dimension to the sale for both vendors and buyers.”

“The market for quality weanlings and broodmares continues to grow, with both pinhookers and end buyers appreciating the value you can source at this sale.”

“Plus with the demand for our New Zealand stock and the quality of our stallions, we are looking forward to putting together a strong catalogue,” he said.

A proven source of success, star NZB weanling graduates include recent Karaka Million and Group One Sistema Stakes hero Tokyo Tycoon (NZ) (Satono Aladdin) who was originally purchased by Billy Xantos for $50,000 as a youngster before reoffering him at the National Yearling Sale.

The value found from this sale is further highlighted by dual Group One winner Callsign Mav (NZ) (Atlante), who was just a $3,000 weanling purchase and NZB Filly of the Year winner Jennifer Eccles (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle) who was a $5,000 purchase.

All weanlings offered are eligible to be nominated for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Million Series. Graduates can compete for a share in the $1m DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) and $120,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup (2200m) for the reminder of their careers.
