Eight Winners for Epaulette

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 1
Darley's young Group I winning sire Epaulette was sent to stud first in the Northern Hemisphere and while his first two year-olds will be up and running here this spring, his European counterparts are already doing the job with a new winner saluting at Windsor in the UK overnight.

EpauletteImproving with recent racing, two year-old colt City Guest scored a length and a half win over five furlongs for the George Margarson stable.

"City Guest is a nice horse. That was nearly too sharp for him, but I thought it was a weak maiden and we got away with it - two smacks and he was off. He's in a 0-70 nursery at Brighton next week over five and a half and he'll probably go there," said Margarson.

Interestingly, City Guest is from Encosta de Lago mare Union City Blues, a half-sister to the dam of Japanese Group III winner Cosmo Nemo Shin.

City Guest is the eighth winner for Epaulette, a three-quarter brother to Darley's triple Group I winner and Group I producing sire Helmet.

The first crop of Epaulette yearlings in Australia sold for up to $260,000 and have joined many of the best stables with 25 of his first crop of two year-olds already named.

Epaulette stands at a fee of $22,000 at Darley, NSW this spring.
