Guineas Winner for Pierro

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 13

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are never afraid to travel a progressive three year-old and Pierro gelding Stonecoat made a successful leap from a Gosford victory last month to the Listed SAJC Morphettville Guineas (1600m) in Adelaide on Monday.

Ridden by Jordan Childs, Stonecoat went forward and kicked away down the running before holding off a late bid from the hot favourite Dashing to score a neck win.

Super consistent, Stonecoat has the overall record of three wins and three placings from seven starts with prizemoney topping $150,000.

“Gai and Adrian train their horses to be on speed and we were able to get that today and he was really tough through the line,” said Jordan Childs.

“He was waiting a bit for the other horse and when he sensed it there he kicked along again. He’s a very nice horse, it’s the first time I’ve sat on him.

“He gave me a great feel today and was able to sustain a good gallop for a long way, so I think he may be able to get further.”

Stonecoat as a yearling

Stonecoat was a $475,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Evergreen Stud Farm draft for Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds and runs for a syndicate that includes Alligator Blood owner Allan Endresz.

Bred by Evergreen Rich, Stonecoat is sadly the only foal of blue-blood Fastnet Rock mare Princess Mia, who died in 2021 after producing just the one live foal.

Princess Mia was a winning half-sister to Thewizardofoz and Argentia from Champion NZ 3YO Filly and four time Group I winner Princess Coup.

Stonecoat is the 34th stakes-winner for Pierro is his third from a daughter of champion sire Fastnet Rock.
