Brave Smash Colt Brave Mead Lights Up Pakenham

Mark Smith - Friday March 10

Narrowly defeated when a well-fancied third at Pakenham at his career debut on February 23, the Brave Smash (JPN) colt Brave Mead put his opponents to the sword in the Cookers Bulk Oil System Maiden (1200m) at Pakenham on Friday night.

Ridden by John Allen for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Brave Mead settled just off the pace. Eased out to find clear air on straightening, the strapping son of Brave Smash (JPN) lengthened impressively to defeat the Headwater colt Birks by a widening four and a half lengths with the Justify (USA) filly Deliveringa further one and a quarter lengths back in third.

Carrying the colours of Australian Bloodstock, Brave Mead was a $90,000 purchase for Ciaron Maher Racing when offered by Lustre Lodge at the 2021 Inglis July (Early) Online Sale.

Bred by A B Breeding Venture, Brave Mead is a half-brother to Listed Geelong Classic winner Solemn (Bernardini) and stakes-placed Honeywine (Street Cry).

He is the seventh winner from the nine to race for the Galileo mare Mead, a half-sister to Group 1 Australasian Oaks winner La Volta and dual Listed winner Terevega.

Mead has a yearling filly by Hellbent and was covered by Tassort last spring.

Brave Mead is the fourth winner from 14 starters for Aquis Stud’s Brave Smash (JPN) and keeps him in fourth place in the race for Champion First Season Sire on earnings and elevated him to equal first for the number of individual winners.

Brave Smash (JPN) has made an exciting start to his stud career.
