Proisir share tops another huge Inglis Digital Sale

Media Release - Wednesday March 8

A share in Proisir – sire of Saturday’s G1 Australian Guineas winner Legarto – sold for a sale-topping $265,000 in an outstanding result in the Inglis Digital March (Early) Online Sale.

The rare offering became the first stallion share to top an Inglis Digital sale in what may be a sign of how similar trade may occur in the future.

A share in leading NZ sire Proisir topped the sale.

Well-known owner Carl Holt, of Zaaki and Lost And Running fame among many other quality gallopers, believes the online trading will only continue to increase.

“I’ve been mainly selling with Inglis Digital over the time but also buy too and it’s very easy, very straight forward, it really is a brilliant tool to trade not only full horses but now shares and obviously stallion shares like Proisir which really is something very new,’’ Holt said.

“In the old days if you wanted to sell anything you had to wait for the physical auction, sometimes three to four months, whereas now you can wake up and decide you want to sell a horse or a share in a horse etc and can do it in three to four days.’’

On Proisir, Holt said: “I think he could be the successor to Savabeel in New Zealand, given what he’s doing at the moment.

“That position will be vacated at some point given the age he is and he’s obviously had a handful of crops on the ground and he’s not just getting winners, he’s getting very good winners.’’

Proisir stands at Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand, whose founder John Thompson welcomed Holt’s involvement.

“I don’t know Carl personally but I know who he is, he has some great horses so is obviously a great judge, he’s very passionate about the industry so I think it’s a feather in the cap of the stallion to have someone like Carl wanting to get involved with him,’’ Thompson said.

“This result is great for the shareholders, it values the stallion at $NZ12.5m, it’s a big step up from where he was earlier in his career, that’s for sure.

“Obviously Legarto did it in Melbourne at the weekend and Prowess is heading to Sydney for the Vinery ion a fortnight so if she can come out and win that too, then Carl would have got himself a bargain today.

“It was a great result, Inglis did a great job promoting the share and I understand there was a lot of interest and multiple bidders, so it’s a good result for everyone.’’

The second and third-top lots are both headed to the Yulong broodmare band in Victoria after Mr Zhang purchased the Neville Duncan-offered Policiere (in foal to Maurice) for $225,000 and Waratah Thoroughbreds mare Matilda’s Run (Frankel) for $205,000.

On Matilda’s Run, Yulong’s Sam Fairgray said: “Mr Zhang obviously has an affinity with Frankel and often you see these champion stallions become champion broodmare sires.

“Having another Frankel in the broodmare band is exciting for years to come.’’

Waratah spokesperson Olly Koolman added: “It was a great result for connections, she’s sold with a heavy heart as the breeding operation has come to an end.

“We wish the new owners all the best with her, I’ve no doubt she will make a beautiful broodmare.’’

The three $200,000+ lots were joined by a further three $100,000+ results which helped the March (Early) Sale to a stunning gross of $3,374,000, continuing the trend of Inglis Digital’s record surge in 2023.

Entries for the March (Late) Sale are now open and will remain so until next Wednesday, March 15.

The sale will run from March 17-22.
