Tenth 2YO Winner for Spirit of Boom

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 26

Less than 24 hours after Ben Thompson was steering the Steve O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted trained Uncommon James to victory in the Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate at Sandown, the same team were back in action at the Sunshine Coast where they combined to win with talented two year-old Shot of Whiskey.

A hot favourite for the 1000m juvenile maiden, Shot of Whiskey made the race his own when skipping away to win by more than three lengths in the Proven Thoroughbreds colours.

A $150,000 Magic Millions purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds/O'Dea Hoysted Racing from the Westbury Stud draft, Shot of Whiskey was bred by Gerry Harvey and is the first winner for Flower of Love, a winning Redoute’s Choice mare from the family of Group winners Spurtonic, Carnegie House and Startling Lass.

He kept the winning run going for Proven Thoroughbreds, who tasted stakes success at Randwick where Think About It won the Group III ATC Liverpool City Cup.

Shot of Whiskey as a yearling

He is the tenth two year-old winner for Eureka Stud’s Spirit of Boom, who is Australia’s leading sire of juvenile winners so far this season.
