Per Incanto's Little Brose Strikes in The Blue Diamond Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 25

Narrowly defeated by Barber in the Group III Blue Diamond Prelude, Little Brose had his revenge in the one that mattered most, the $2,000,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Sandown-Lakeside on Saturday.

Ridden by Michael Dee for Ben and JD Hayes, Little Brose stalked the early pace.

When Dee asked for an effort, he found plenty and the son of Per Incanto (USA) defeated the fast-finishing Extreme Choice colt Don Corleone by a length with the winner’s stablemate Arkansaw Kid (Harry Angel) a long head back in third.

The Listed Merson Cooper Stakes winner at Caulfield last November, Little Brose advances his record to two wins and two seconds from four starts with earnings of $1,410,750.

uo;I love it when a plan comes together. We needed luck in running; we got it. It’s so brilliant,” JD Hayes said.

“For everyone back home at Lindsay Park, it’s so good for the team to get a result like this. Mum and dad, up in Hong Kong, it’s on delay, so they’re probably crossing the line now. They’ll be yelling the house down.

Unfortunately, the person who bred Little Brose had a death in the family, so condolences go out to him, and I hope that puts a smile on his face.

“Also, Dean Hawthorne picked him out at the sales.

“I’d also like to thank Mr Young. He took the horse one out. He took me on a golfing day in Hong Kong and bought into this horse, and we’ve been on a terrific run. Couldn’t be happier to get a good result for a good client.”

A $200,000 purchase for Lindsay Park Racing from the Sledmere Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Little Brose

is the fourth winner from six to race out of the stakes-winning Straight Man mare Mohegan Sky (USA).

Little Brose a $200,000 Magic Millions yearling

A half-sister to the Listed winner and multiple Grade III placed Vous (Wild Rush), Mohegan Sky (USA) was a $25,000 online purchase in 2021, but she sadly died on October 11.

Her final foal is a yearling filly by Russian Revolution that Kelly Thoroughbreds will offer at the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Little Brose is the sixth Group 1 winner for Little Avondale Stud’s overachieving Street Cry (IRE) stallion Per Incanto (USA).

Footnote: A Breednet story earlier this week highlighted the success of Avesta Bloodstock in sourcing quality broodmares for bargain prices and one of the mares mentioned was Rolling Cloud (in foal to Brazen Beau), who was acquired for $25,000 in partnership with Rathmore Bloodstock and she’s now a half-sister to Blue Diamond winner Little Brose!   Read the story here.
