Pericles a Fifth Stakes Winner for Blue Hen Accessories

Mark Smith - Saturday February 25

Godolphin’s blue hen Accessories (GB) took her total of stakes-winners to five following a dominant performance from the Street Boss gelding Pericles in Saturday’s Group II Stow Storage Autumn Classic (1800m) at Sandown-Lakeside.

Ridden by Jamie Kah for James Cummings, the lightly raced three-year-old was in a race of his own over the final 200m defeating the Savabeel colt Mr Maestro by two and three-quarter lengths with the Maurice (JPN) gelding Ausbred Rising Sun a nose back in third.

With his first stakes success, Pericles advances his record to two wins, a second, and a third from six starts with earnings of $401,740.

Jamie Kah said she went to the race full of confidence.

"He gave me a super feel, and I galloped him on Tuesday and off his work I thought he can’t get beat, but I was still very impressed with that, Kah said.

“The turn-of-foot he showed today was electric, so wherever they go he will be competitive. I think he’s such a versatile horse, so drop him back or step up, whatever you want, and that’s what you get with these really proper horses.”

Stable foreman Sean Keogh said the stable might set the son of Street Boss (USA) on a classic path in Sydney.

"He’d only won a maiden over seven furlongs, but has shown promise,” Keogh said.

“We’d seen him perform over seven furlongs, and James felt like he needed the 1800 metres, and he managed to place him in the Autumn Classic at Group Two.

“He’s got the nominations for all the big races. Both the Guineas, the Rosehill Guineas and the ATC Derby as well. But today was a crossroads in timing, and we knew the horse would get there in time, whether now or later, so he’s justified that he can go on and do it.

“It is up to James and the team to chat about that in the morning.”

Pericles is a half-brother to outstanding Group performers Helmet, Epaulette, Bullbars and Pearls.

Accessories (GB) has a yearling colt by Microphone named Lavalier.

After missing in 2021, the daughter of singspiel was covered by Ghaiyyath (IRE).

Pericles is the 62nd stakes winner for darley Stud's Street Boss (USA).
