One to Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 15

The Bryce Heys stable continued their winning run at Randwick on Wednesday with a jaw dropping maiden win for a $1million colt by So You Think.

Cut on a Dime was seventh on debut and then an unlucky third at his first two starts last spring and was resuming from a good spell in the 1400m three year-old maiden.

Ridden quietly with cover by Nash Rawiller it was looking like Cut a Dime would go to the line untested until a split appeared and he powered through it to score a thrilling and unexpected win.

The second most expensive yearling by So You Think ever sold, Cut a Dime was a $1million Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Segenhoe Stud for Ellerslie Lodge / B Heys and runs  for a syndicate that includes his breeders.

He is a half-brother to stakes-winner Meg and is the third winner from Martilago, a metro winning half-sister by Encosta de Lago to Group I winner Charmont from stakes-winner Martique, a daughter of Group I winner Champagne.

It’s a prolific Black Type family that has also produced NZ Horse of the Year Bonneval and dual Group I winner St Reims.

Martilago has no yearling for the sales this year, but did produce a So You Think filly last spring.
