Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 14

Rocket Scientist was not the only sibling to a Group I winner to make a winning debut at Benalla on Tuesday and this one has a half-brother to be offered at Inglis Premier.

Hotzel wins with ease at Benalla - image Brett Holburt / Racing Photos

Three year-old Snitzel filly Hotzel was sent out a short priced favourite for the 1200m maiden and the Archie Alexander trained filly got the job done in style.

She powered clear to win by nearly two lengths and has more wins in store.

“She took  good improvement from her trial at Geelong and she went good that day, but was still a bit new and even today she was still having a bit of a look around, but there is plenty of ability there,” said winning rider Johnny Allen.

A $410,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Milano Bloodstock / Badgers Bloodstock / R Ryan, Hotzel was bred by Shadwell and foaled and raised at Yarraman Park.

She is a half-sister to triple Group I winner Soqrat, the Champion 2YO Colt in South Africa, and is the fifth winner from five to race from terrific producer Elzeeza, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group II winner Colorado Claire from the family of Group I winning sprinter Lucky Bubbles.

Elzeeza was sold as part of the Shadwell Dispersal in 2021 and was bought by Yulong for $525,000  at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2021.

Yulong will offer an Exceed and Excel colt from Elzeeza as Lot 400 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and she as covered last spring by Written Tycoon after missing the previous year.
