Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 13

Interesting set of trials at Rosehill on Monday with Group I horses such as Mazu and Zaaki in action in the early heats while seven heats were won by juveniles including two from the last ever crop of Australian foals by champion sire More Than Ready (USA).

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained More Than Ready colt Mr Caleb improved sharply at his second trial after missing the start badly at his first appearance last month. This time he jumped on terms and pushed forward to sit outside the leader and when ridden along to take the lead did so with a minim of fuss.

A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Vinery draft, Mr Caleb is a half-brother to US Group III winner Blueeyesintherein from Tartufi (USA), who has a yearling filly by Press Statement that will be offered by Vinery Stud as Lot 712.

Lot 712

Gai Waterhouse has had a lot of success with the More Than Ready stock over the years and she and Adrian Bott train Amazonian Lass, who was another to show good improvement from first trial into second. She jumped OK at her first trial but was slow to muster, whereas this time she hit the ground running to take up the lead and kept up a good gallop to the line. She beat some very nice fillies and am keen to see the next three behind her again.

A $325,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Segenhoe draft, Amazonian Lass runs in the Go Bloodstock colours and is a half-sister to a pretty handy metro winner in Riverplate from Fastnet Rock mare Dynastic Lady, a winning sister to Group I winner Age of Fire. The Zoustar yearling filly from Dynastic Lady sold for $750,000 at Magic Millions this year.

Russian Revolution has had a hot run with his two year-olds and the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexious trained filly Ballroom Bella looks another promising filly. She jumped from an inside gate to hold third place on the fence and when angled between runners finished off well to win by the best part of a length.

A $320,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Mill Park draft, Ballroom Bella is a half-sister to two winners from Pasadoble, a metro winning three-quarter sister to Group III winner Diamond Earth.

I Am Invincible filly Untouchable Legend looks a natural runner for Team Hawkes, travelling just behind the leaders and surging to the line to win by a neck.

A $550,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Silverdale Farm draft, she is the second foal from Group I placed Savabeel mare Endean Rose, whose yearling by Deep Field is headed to Inglis Easter as Lot 115.

Additional trial winners were: Altair I Am (I Am Invincible), Cylinder (Exceed and Excel) and Gustosisimo (Exceed and Excel).
