Deep Field Colt Bases Loaded Makes Winning Debut

Flashy Deep Field two-year-old colt Bases Loaded made a winning start to his career in Friday's Drinkwise Maiden Plate (1100m) at Randwick-Kensington.

Ridden by Tim Clark for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Bases Loaded raced outside the leader Capital Heart before hitting the front shortly after turning for home.  

Under strong riding, Bases Loaded defeated the Rubick filly French Endeavour by a half-length with a further three-quarter of a length back to the Press Statement filly Pier Pressure, who was doing her best work in the final furlong.

Bases Loaded is the eleventh 2yo winner from Tulloch Lodge this season and continues the phenomenal run of success for the consortium led by Newgate Farm and China Horse Club.

"I'm most pleased for connections, Henry Field and Newgate Farm and the team they have around them," Adrian Bott said.

"They have some lovely colts, and we are in the great position of having the opportunity with some fantastic horseflesh.

'He's a lovely big strong colt. I was happy when there was a bit of pressure early because I thought he was the type that could absorb that pressure.

"I knew he would be tough late on at tack that suits him, and he has a lot of upside."

A $290,000 pinhook by Hunter Valley Bloodstock from the Rushton Park draft at the 2021 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale, Bases Loaded made an even $400,000 to the bid of China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock / Starlight, when consigned by Tyreel Stud to the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

Bred by Willaroon Thoroughbreds, Bases Loaded is a half-brother to stakes-placed Shebringzit (Sebring). He is the second winner from three to race out of the unraced Not A Single Doubt mare Passarelle.

Purchased by Heritage Bloodstock for $120,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, Passarelle is a half-sister to Group II WATC Lee Steere Stakes winner Silverstream, Group III  AJC Adrian Knox Stakes winner Speedy Natalie, and dual Listed stakes winner Calanda.

Speedy Natalie is the dam of Group III VRC The Vanity winner Sweet And Speedy (Street Cry).

Not served in 2020, Passarelle has a Capitalist filly and was covered by Written Tycoon last spring.
