Paul Perry feels sick in the stomach every time he watches the replay of the Group I Golden Rose where his colts Perast and The Mission ran each other into the ground.
And he says there won't be a repeat of those kamikaze tactics in the Group I Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on Saturday.
In the Golden Rose, the Perry stablemates went crazy in the lead and spoiled any chance either had of winning.
Perast jumped and tried to lead but the Mission kept kicking up on his inside and the two engaged in a two-horse speed war as they put a gap on their rivals.
It was no surprise to see The Mission faded badly, beaten 15 lengths and only beating one runner home.
But Perry was staggered that Perast was able to run seventh and was only beaten 6.4 lengths.
So while Perast went into the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) at double-figure odds in betting markets, Perry was not surprised the son of Snitzel was able to get the job done.
Despite winning the Prelude, Perast has gone under the radar in the lead-up to Saturday's Guineas and as much as $12 is being bet about him with several runners who he beat in the Guineas at skinnier odds.
Multiple Group I winning trainer Perry believes the 1600m will suit Perast even more and thinks he has been chugging along well since his Prelude win.
One thing is for certain and that is Perry doesn't want his stablemates going to war again like they did in the Golden Rose.
"It makes me sick in the guts every time I look at a replay of it (the Golden Rose)," Perry said.
"I don't know what happened and I don't know what the jockeys were thinking.
"Not from my point of view will that be happening again."
Both Perry runners have new jockeys in the Guineas with Ben Melham to steer Perast, while apprentice Beau Mertens will ride The Mission.
Perry sees both runners sitting near the speed with Perast getting a cushy run from barrier two.
"One bloke will be very handy (The Mission) while the other bloke (Perast) should get a lovely run," Perry said.
"I really do think Perast will be suited by the mile and he is definitely a genuine chance."
